Just one month after the South Kansas and Oklahoma Railroad lifted a traffic embargo put in place because of rain-damaged infrastructure, another Watco Cos. Inc. short line has issued an embargo due to recent flood damage in Oklahoma.
On Monday, the Stillwater Central Railroad halted traffic after heavy rains from Tropical Storm Erin damaged a bridge near Tuttle, Okla.
Expected to be out of service about 10 days, the damaged bridge “effectively severs the railroad” because the structure is located along a key route, according to a statement issued by Watco. The embargo covers traffic received at a Union Pacific Railroad interchange at Midwest City and portions of traffic received at three BNSF Railway Co. interchanges.
Yesterday, the Class Is agreed to re-route traffic over their lines during the embargo, said Pat Cedeno, Watco’s chief operating officer for the Central Region.
Watco teams have completed an initial damage assessment and established a repair timeline. Work will begin tomorrow and the bridge will reopen Aug. 31 if the area doesn’t receive additional rainfall.
