Avista Labs and Automated Railroad Maintenance Systems Inc. (ARMS) June 10 announced a joint agreement to distribute Avista Labs’ Modular Cartridge Technology™ proton-exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells to the railroad industry.
ARMS plans soon to market Avista Labs’ Independence fuel-cell product line (ranging from 100 watts to several kilowatts) to North American railroads for backup and remote-power applications.
Officials of both companies believe the rail market for PEM fuel cells will grow dramatically by 2006.
Avista Labs’ modular, hot-swappable fuel cells ideally fit remote railroad applications that require a high degree of reliability, said ARMS President and Chief Executive Officer Walter Winzen in a prepared statement.
