Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ bi-monthly Omnibus Household Survey recently showed the average American’s daily one-way commute to work takes a little more than 26 minutes.
The August survey — based on a random sampling of more than 1,000 households — found 94 percent of commuters spend 60 minutes or less traveling to work, and that the average commuting time has not varied significantly during the past three years.
The longest reported commute was three hours; the shortest, one minute.
The survey is designed to identify the general public’s behavior patterns and attitudes regarding basic travel tendencies, according to a prepared statement.
