Earlier this week, Swedish iron-ore mining firm LKAB announced plans to acquire four locomotives and 222 rail cars.
The 30-ton axle load locomotives will replace older power, which will be decommissioned between 2009 and 2011. The new locomotives are expected to be in operation by third-quarter 2010.
The company also will acquire three new train sets, each of which will include 68 cars and six reserve cars. The payload weight of each car will exceed 200,000 pounds.
