Swiss railways' freight division opts for Bombardier-built locomotives

Bombardier Transportation Oct. 30 was awarded a $26.6 million contract by Swiss Federal Railways freight division to supply 10 customized electric locomotives.
Scheduled to be delivered between February 2002 and May 2002, the locomotives — designed to reach a maximum speed of 87 mph — primarily would run on the Germany/Switzerland border corridor.
German railways Deutsche Bahn AG since 1998 has been using the same type of customized locomotive.
