Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
Later this month, TPI Composites Inc. will open a 45,000-square-foot production facility in Springfield, Ohio.
Initially employing 36 people, the plant will produce eight newly designed lightweight platform decks daily for Gunderson L.L.C.’s Auto-Max freight car. The composite decks are designed to be more durable and less susceptible to corrosion than steel decks, TPI said.
A Greenbrier Cos. subsidiary, Gunderson plans to replace steel decks with composite decks to offer cars needing less loading and unloading time.
“What took more than a minute and a half and a significant effort to crank into place will now take mere seconds,” said TPI President and Chief Executive Officer Steven Lockard in a prepared statement.
