Yesterday, the National TRANSCAER Task Group presented 2005 Transportation Community Awareness and Emergency Response (TRANSCAER®) National Achievement Awards to BNSF Railway Co., CSX Transportation and Norfolk Southern Corp.
The awards recognize the Class Is’ dedication to TRANSCAER and emergency response training. A voluntary outreach program, TRANSCAER helps communities prepare for and respond to train and truck accidents involving hazardous materials. The program is sponsored by the Association of American Railroads, American Chemistry Council, Chemical Educational Foundation, CHEMTREC®, Chlorine Institute and National Tank Truck Carriers.
BNSF conducted 115 classes and trained more than 3,800 emergency responders, while CSXT developed 37 classroom and hands-on training sessions, and created a self-study program for emergency responders. NS conducted 186 classes and trained about 5,000 emergency responders.
