The National Transportation Community Awareness and Emergency Response (TRANSCAER®) Task Group recently presented the 2005 TRANSCAER Regional Achievement Award to Pennsylvania TRANSCAER (PATC).
The national organization honored PATC for promoting community awareness of chemical transportation in Pennsylvania, helping local emergency planning committees and management agencies develop and evaluate transportation emergency response plans, and encouraging municipalities to share emergency preparedness capabilities. PATC also promoted ongoing local first responder training in 22 Pennsylvania counties and provided tabletop training to approximately 100 first responders.
A voluntary community outreach program, TRANSCAER aims to help municipalities prepare for and respond to incidents involving hazardous materials. Volunteers include representatives from chemical producers, distributors, transportation carriers, first responders and government agencies. TRANSCAER® is sponsored by the Association of American Railroads, American Chemistry Council, Chemical Educational Foundation, CHEMTREC®, The Chlorine Institute Inc. and National Tank Truck Carriers Inc.
