The total fleet managed by subscribers to the Integrated Railway Remote Information Service (InteRRIS®) recently surpassed 1 million rail vehicles, according to the Transportation Technology Center Inc. (TTCI).

Developed by TTCI and operational for more than eight years, InteRRIS is a Web-based data warehouse that contains and processes performance and condition data about wheels, bearings, trucks and other rail vehicle components. The system daily transmits event notices and data to about 300 subscribers, including railroads, private rail-car owners, transit agencies, manufacturers and third-party fleet management service providers.

InteRRIS obtains, analyzes and transmits rail vehicle event data from more than 170 wayside detectors worldwide, amounting to more than 400 million information records per month, according to TTCI. The system provides detailed performance data for more than 1.5 million rail vehicles in the North American interchange railroad system as well as the Association of American Railroads’ Advanced Technology Safety Initiative.
