TTX Co. recently ordered 2,216 rail cars from four North American car builders. Delivery is expected later this year and in 2004.
TTX ordered 939 three-unit, 53-foot articulated and 880 53-foot stand-alone well cars from The Greenbrier Cos.' Gunderson Inc. and TrentonWorks Ltd., and National Steel Car Ltd. and Thrall-Trinity Freight Car Inc.; 100 89-foot, 100-ton steel-deck flat cars from Johnstown America Corp.; and 300 centerbeam cars from National Steel Car.
"These orders are consistent with our long-term optimism regarding railroad intermodal traffic," said TTX President Andrew Reardon in a prepared statement.
Owned by North America's nine largest railroads, TTX owns and operates a free-running pool of more than 152,000 cars.
