The TTX family has lost a dedicated manager and a dear friend.
On July 18, TTX Co. Director Material Supply David Ireland died in British Columbia, Canada, “engaged in his passion of rock climbing,” according to a statement published on TTX’s Web site. He was 51.
Ireland began his TTX career in 1977, in the revenue accounting department as a revenue analyst-Railbox. Since then, he held the titles of maintenance accountant; contract auditor; purchasing agent; manager acquisition & audit; manager purchasing administration; senior manager equipment purchasing; and, most recently, director material supply.
Born in Elgin, Ill., in 1953, Ireland received his a bachelor of arts degree from Western Illinois University and a master’s degree in business from Loyola University. He was “held in the highest respect by all who knew him” and was “more than a stellar employee; he was a stellar human being,” according to the TTX statement.
Added TTX President and Chief Executive Officer Andy Reardon: “Over the years as I came to know Dave, I also came to know and so deeply appreciate the quiet wisdom that resided inside this genteel character. We will miss him.”
Ireland is survived by his mother, Therese Ireland; three sisters, Christine Kiermas, Barbara Ireland and Susan Boehmer; his life partner of twenty years, David Panozzo; a nephew, Keith Kiermas; and many friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Unity Church of Chicago, 1925 W. Thome; phone: 773-973-0007. TTX officials suggest that all donations go to The Chicago Mountaineer Club.
