The Port of Tacoma plans to implement Tideworks Technology's planning software to manage the port's intermodal facilities.

Spinnaker Planning Management System™ is designed to enable yard managers to handle and coordinate all types of container operations, including receiving and delivery, inventory management, rail and yard planning, and customized reporting.

The software includes rail planning tools designed to transfer real-time container information into more accurate, electronically dispatched orders for load, discharge and yard moves.

"The software will bring increased functionality and ease-of-use to our rail
yards," said Director of Rail Operations Kelly Smith in a prepared statement, adding that the software can be integrated with the port's automated equipment I.D. system, and terminal-management and railroad computer systems.

During the second quarter, the port plans to install the software at its north and south intermodal yards. North America's sixth largest port, Tacoma handles more than 300,000 containers annually.
