The Soy Transportation Coalition (STC) has announced the Tennessee Soybean Promotion Board joined the coalition, becoming the STC’s 10th state soybean board member.
The Tennessee board voted to join the coalition at their Jan. 19 meeting. The state organization will designate a farmer representative to serve on STC’s board at the coalition’s next meeting on March 2.
“We look forward to working with the Soy Transportation Coalition to ensure we have an infrastructure that ensures the production of Tennessee soybean farmers can efficiently and effectively be matched with the demands of a growing and hungry world,” said Karl Forsbach, a soybean farmer and chairman of the Tennessee Soybean Promotion Board, in a prepared statement.
Established in 2007, the STC comprises 10 state soybean boards, the American Soybean Association and United Soybean Board. The coalition aims to provide the soybean industry cost-effective, reliable and competitive transportations services.
“Given that approximately half of the annual U.S. soybean crop is exported to customers around the world, farmers have a growing awareness that transportation is a key to the immediate and long term health of the soybean industry,” said STC Chairman Ed Ulch. “So much depends on having quality roads, bridges, railroads, interior waterways and ports.”
