American Honda Motor Co. Inc. Sept. 3 named Burlington Northern Santa Fe a Premier Partner — an award which recognizes companies that provide the automaker outstanding service.

BNSF is one of 15 companies honored as Premier Partners each year since American Honda established the award in 1998, according to a prepared statement.

Meanwhile, RailAmerica Inc. subsidiary Freight Australia recently was named 2002 Australian Freight Carrier of the Year, an award that recognizes a transportation company's efficiency, safety, use of new technologies and customer-service performance.

Freight Australia's focus on satisfying customer needs, increased productivity, and occupation health and safety program helped the railroad win the award, said Freight Australia Chief Executive Officer Marinus van Onselen when accepting the award, according to a prepared statement.

Freight Australia, which RailAmerica purchased in April 1999 from the Victorian State government, also developed relationships with local over-the-road operators to help ensure more seamless and cost-effective door-to-door service, the company said.
