Three Class Is commit to purchasing recycled-wood ties
advertisement
Reconstituted Technologies July 25 announced that it had received five-year commitments from Burlington Northern Santa Fe, Union Pacific Railroad and CSX Transportation to purchase a total of 1.5 million of the supplier's R-Ties™.
The commitments will enable Shawnee, Kan.-based Reconstituted Technologies to finalize construction plans for a plant to manufacture R-Ties, which are produced by recycling old creosote wood ties.
The company has been developing R-Ties for five years, and currently is conducting final field tests at Association of American Railroads' Transportation Technology Center Inc. in Pueblo, Colo., and on four sections of UP's mainlines.
Reconstituted Technologies plans to offer railroads an environmentally friendlier solution to wood-tie disposal by recycling the wood into R-Tie composite ties.
