The Timken Co. recently won a contract to supply, repair and replace tapered bearings for German bogie supplier ELH Eisenbahnlaufwerke Halle GmbH & Co. KG. Timken delivered two-thirds of the bearings ordered before 2006’s end.
ELH will install the bearings in its “Optitrack” bogie or truck, which is designed for bulk freight cars used by British rail operator Freightliner. The Greenbrier Cos. will install the bogies on new freight cars manufactured in Poland.
In addition to supplying tapered bearings, Timken will recondition bearings in England, and manage spare parts and procurement.
A supplier of the Timken® AP™ and AP-2™ tapered roller bearings and other rail-related bearings, Timken also provides bearing reconditioning services, and markets seals, wear and backing rings, rail bearing grease and a friction management system.
