Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
The Timken Co. recently supplied cartridge bearings to Norwegian mining company Rana Gruber AS — Timken’s first rail customer in Norway.
Rana Gruber will use the bearings, along with new axles and wheels, to increase the load capacity of iron ore cars by about 20 percent.
Timken supplied its Timken® AP-2™ Class K cartridge bearings set in adapters — a configuration common in North American freight-rail applications and gaining popularity in Europe, according to Timken — to ease assembly and maintenance. Tapered roller bearings, seals and housing are provided in a pre-lubricated package.
Meanwhile, Timken also appointed five executives to head business units within the company’s new Bearings and Power Transmission Group.
Timken named:
• Michael Connors, currently vice president of industrial equipment, president of process industries;
• J. Ron Menning, VP-aerospace, health and positioning control, president of aerospace and defense;
• Daniel Muller, VP of global distribution-sales and marketing, president of distribution and services;
• Peter Sproson, VP of automotive engineering and marketing, VP of commercial transportation systems; and
• Kenneth Hopkins, VP for Timken’s European automotive business, VP of light vehicle systems.
