The Timken Co. obtained a contract to be the sole supplier of tapered roller bearings for final drives Voith Turbo GmbH & Co. KG is manufacturing for Siemens Transportation Systems’ Velaro E high-speed trains.
The trains will operate up to 217 mph on the Spanish national railway’s Madrid-to-Barcelona line.
The bearings are “more compact and economical than the previous cylindrical roller bearing design used on some high-speed trains,” according to Timken.
