Timken to provide journal bearing assembly for new German passenger train

advertisement

Today, the Timken Co. announced it’s supplying a journal bearing assembly and housing for a new PROTOS regional passenger train being built by FTD Fahrzeugtechnik Dessau AG in Dessau, Germany.

Designed to reduce train wheel friction, the assembly comprises tapered roller bearings mounted in a radial arm housing. Pre- assembled, pre-lubricated and sealed bearings are fitted to the train axle and positioned in the housing within the truck frame.

A low-floor multiple-car train, PROTOS can reach speeds of 100 mph. FTD plans to introduce the train at InnoTrans 2006, to be held Sept. 19-22 in Berlin, Germany.
