Toyota Logistics Services recently named Norfolk Southern Corp. the recipient of the 2008 President's Award for overall logistics excellence among rail carriers — the shipper’s highest logistics provider honor.

The award recognizes a logistics provider’s overall performance in customer service, on-time delivery and quality. NS has received the President's Award six times since the program began in 1996.

The Class I also received Toyota's individual excellence award for best on-time delivery among rail carriers and the top quality award, which recognizes damage-free handling of Toyota's vehicles.

Last year, the railroad transported 552,000 Toyota vehicles, including those originating from NS-served plants in Georgetown, Ky.; and Lafayette and Princeton, Ind.
