Trackage rights to tie Indiana short line into NS' coal customer

Squaw Creek Southern Railroad Inc. (SCS) recently field a notice of exemption with Surface Transportation Board to acquire from Norfolk Southern Railway non-exclusive trackage rights to 21.3 track miles in Warrick County, Ind.

SCS plans to operate the line near Yankeetown Dock Corp. and interchange with NS at Boonville, Ind.

NS in late June purchased 21.9 miles of private rail lines and spurs in southwest Indiana from Peabody Coal Co. and Yankeetown Dock Corp. to enhance its coal network and better serve the two coal producers.

The Warrick line serves Yankeetown Dock, which Peabody Coal purchased last year.
