TranSystems Corp. recently received the American Council of Engineering Cos.’ Grand Award for its design of the Kansas City Junction or Argentine Flyover in Kansas City, Mo., which opened in September 2004.

Recognizing transportation industry engineering excellence, the award is “often referred to as the ‘Academy Awards’ of the engineering profession,” TranSystems officials said a prepared statement.

One of two triple-decker flyovers in the United State, the three-mile rail-over-rail bridge grade separates two BNSF Railway Co. lines that intersect near the Missouri/Kansas border. The 60-foot-high flyover also passes over Union Pacific Railroad’s High Line bridge and connects with a line owned by The Kansas City Terminal Railway Co., which retained TranSystems to design and construction manage the project.

“It’s a unique project, incorporating the full range of the science and art of transportation consulting,” said Chuck Mader, TranSystems principal and vice president, and project program manager.

TranSystems provides engineering and consulting services to the transportation industry, including freight railroads.
