Transit agencies increase security during holidays

advertisement

Because the national alert level has been increased to "Orange," some transit agencies have stepped up security for the holiday season.

Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Transit Police recently deployed special response and explosive detection canine teams to monitor Metrorail stations. In addition, the authority added police officers and required officers to wear flourescent vests to increase visibility.

Meanwhile, Metropolitan Area Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) police now are working 10-hour shifts; all leaves have been postponed. The authority also limited access to restricted areas and prohibited unauthorized visitors in MARTA facilities, as well as removed unauthorized vehicles from restricted areas.
