After posting gains in January, the Transportation Services Index (TSI), Freight TSI and Passenger TSI registered declined in February. The TSI, which reached an index of 108.2, decreased 1.3 percent from January’s level, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS). But on a year-over-year basis, the index rose 4.1 percent.

February’s Freight TSI of 106.5 fell 1.5 percent from January’s level — the first drop after two-straight monthly gains. On a year-over-year basis, the index increased 4.1 percent. Freight shipments increased in 16 of the 22 months prior to February, according to the BTS.

February’s Passenger TSI of 112.9 decreased 1 percent from January’s level, but climbed 4.2 percent compared with February 2010’s index.
