In July, the Transportation Services Index (TSI) of 111.6 dropped 0.3 percent compared with June — the second-straight monthly decline, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics. However, July’s index rose 2.3 percent compared with July 2004.

The July Freight TSI of 111.9 fell 0.6 percent compared with June — also the second-consecutive monthly drop — but increased 0.9 percent compared with July 2004.

The Passenger TSI fared the best in July, rising 0.5 percent to 110.8 compared with June. The index also increased 5.6 percent compared with July 2004.

During a six-month period ending in July, the TSI increased 0.1 percent, Freight TSI decreased 0.9 percent and Passenger TSI rose 2.3 percent compared with the previous six-month period

The TSI is a measure of month-to-month changes in the output of services provided by for-hire transportation industries, including rail, air, truck, inland waterways, pipelines and local transit.
