Transportation Services Index held steady in November

The Transportation Services Index (TSI) was relatively flat in November at 111.1 compared with October’s 111.2 index, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS). On a year-over-year basis, the TSI climbed 3.8 percent.
November’s Freight TSI of 109.5 inched up 0.1 percent from October’s level and rose 4.9 percent from November 2010’s mark. Freight shipments in November reached the second-highest level since July 2008, according to BTS. Through 2011’s first 11 months, freight shipments measured by the index increased 2.4 percent.
November’s Passenger TSI of 115.6 fell 0.5 percent from October’s level but rose 1.1 percent on a year-over-year basis. The index has climbed 2.2 percent over the past five years.
