Transportation Services Index inched up in April, BTS says

In April, The Transportation Services Index (TSI) nudged up 0.2 percent from March’s level to 100.6, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS). The index also rose 3.4 percent compared with April 2009’s count.

April’s Freight TSI of 98.1 increased 0.3 percent from March’s level — posting its third-straight month-over-month gain — and rose 4.8 percent on a year-over-year basis. The index climbed 4.9 percent between June 2009 and April 2010.

April’s Passenger TSI of 109.3 declined 0.2 percent from March’s level and 0.7 percent from April 2009’s index.
