The Transportation Services Index (TSI) in July reached 110.6, up 0.3 percent from June’s level and 3.9 percent from July 2010’s mark, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS).

The Freight TSI remained flat from June’s level at 108.3, but climbed 3.8 percent on a year-over-year basis.

“In July, freight shipments returned to about the same level as August 2008, which was the start of six straight months of decline,” BTS officials said in a prepared statement.

July’s Passenger TSI of 117.1 rose 1.2 percent from June’s level and 4.2 percent from July 2010’s mark. The index has increased 5.5 percent over the past five years.
