At February’s end, the Transportation Services Index (TSI) stood at 99.3, down 0.1 percent compared with January’s index and the lowest February level since 2002, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS). The TSI also tumbled 1.8 percent compared with February 2009’s index.

The Freight TSI of 96.9 rose 0.3 percent from January’s level, marking the second-straight month-over-month gain, according to BTS. In addition, the index increased 3.6 percent during the nine-month period between June 2009 and February 2010. But on a year-over-year basis, the Freight TSI declined 2 percent.

The Passenger TSI of 107.8 decreased 1.5 percent from January’s level and 1.6 percent from February 2009’s mark.
