The Naval War College and Department of Homeland Security’s Transportation Security Administration (TSA) recently held a war game seminar designed to help national, state and industry leaders develop methods to increase security and respond to threats.

Amtrak, National Transportation Safety Board, Border and Transportation Security, U.S. Northern Command, U.S. Coast Guard and the Federal Emergency Management Agency also participated in the seminar.

The event included a war-game scenario and moderator-led discussions, which enabled participants to explore safety duties and responsibilities, and test related command decisions in a controlled setting, according to a prepared statement.

"[By] exposing federal, state and industry leaders to a basic form of war gaming, we were able to offer them new tools for dealing with the broad planning aspects of future complex emergencies," said Carl Schloemann, the game’s designer.
