advertisement
On Oct. 7, Tranz Rail Holdings Ltd. reached an agreement to sell Wellington Station for $8 million to the New Zealand government and New Zealand Railways Corp.
Tranz Rail will retain use of the station's platforms and concourse under a previous lease agreement, and sign a new long-term lease involving a majority of the facility. Victoria University of Wellington recently agreed to lease 6,000 square feet at the station.
Passenger road Tranz Metro will continue to operate trains at the station, which also houses rail-service staff, a train network-control center and ferry-service provider Interisland Line.
