Yesterday, Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (TriMet) unveiled its $367.6 million fiscal-year 2006 operating budget, which includes funds to expand the agency’s light-rail system and begin a commuter-rail project.

Pending Federal Transit Administration approval, the agency would begin constructing the 14.7-mile Washington County commuter-rail line between Wilsonville and Beaverton, and begin final design on the I-205/Portland Mall MAX extension.

TriMet also expects to raise fares in September, expand Airport MAX Red Line consists to two cars, and add capacity between Beaverton and Gateway transit center.

The board is expected to adopt the budget at its June 22 meeting.
