Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
In April, Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (TriMet) posted its highest-ever weekday ridership average, recording an average of 308,100 weekday trips, up 3 percent compared with April 2003 figures.
The previous record of 304,000 trips was set in October 2000. The only other time weekday ridership surpassed 300,000 was in October 2003.
Weekend ridership also is on the rise — MAX light-rail ridership increased 9 percent in April. TriMet officials attribute the increases to regional job growth and high gas prices.
