Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
The Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (TriMet) recently awarded a $75 million contract to Siemens Transportation Systems Inc. for 21 S70 light-rail trains. The contract includes an option for three additional vehicles.
The low-floor vehicles will feature larger windows and 12 more seats per car — for a total of 76 — compared with TriMet’s current fleet.
Costing $3.4 million each, the cars will operate on the I-205/Portland Mall light-rail line once it opens in September 2009.
