Trinity Industries Inc. is a step closer to selling its European rail business. Today, the company announced it signed an agreement to sell Trinity Rail GmbH to International Railway Systems S.A. The transaction is expected to close within two weeks.

Trinity Rail GmbH builds freight cars, including intermodal and tank cars, for the European rail market.

“While the European rail-car market has shown signs of recovery in recent months, we feel it is in the best interest of Trinity to dedicate more of our resources and assets to opportunities in North America,” said Trinity Industries Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Timothy Wallace in a prepared statement.

Trinity Industries builds and leases rail cars, and produces inland barges, construction products and energy equipment.
