U.S. Department of Transportation's Research and Special Programs Administration (RSPA) June 3 awarded a $435,100 grant to both University of Denver's National Center for Intermodal Transportation (NCIT) and Assumption College's Center for Transportation and Environmental Education for the 21st Century (CTEE-21) to operate campus-based University Transportation Centers (UTCs).
USDOT's UTC program supports research and development, and encourages students to pursue transportation careers, said RSPA Administrator Ellen Engleman in a prepared statement.
NCIT (in partnership with Mississippi State University) aims to help assess, plan and design the nation's intermodal system; CTEE-21 specializes in researching and developing materials and methods to incorporate transportation and environmental issues into grades' K-12 curricula.
RSPA, which funds 33 UTCs involving more than 80 U.S. schools, requires UTC grant recipients to provide matching funds.
