UP, Berkshire Hathaway among 'most admired' companies for 2019


Six companies — including UP — are ranked in the trucking, transportation and logistics category.

Fortune magazine has included Union Pacific Railroad and BNSF Railway Co. owner Berkshire Hathaway Inc. on its 2019 list of the "World's Most Admired Companies."

UP is ranked third in the trucking, transportation and logistics category while Berkshire Hathaway is ranked No. 3 in the top 50. Others ranked in the transport category are XPO Logistics at No. 1, C.H. Robinson Worldwide at No. 2, Ryder System at No. 4, Maersk Group at No. 5 and J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. at No. 6.

Overall, Apple is No. 1 and Amazon is No. 2, while UPS also landed in the top 50 at No. 33.

Fortune and its research partner survey thousands of executives, directors and analysts from more than 1,000 firms to determine the Most Admired companies. The criteria includes people management, financial soundness, long-term investments, social responsibility, use of corporate assets, quality of management and products/services, global competitiveness and innovation.
