They didn’t crack the top 50, but three Class Is have landed on Fortune magazine’s annual list of “America’s Most Admired Companies.”
BNSF Railway Co., Norfolk Southern Corp. and Union Pacific Railroad are among the 363 companies listed. In the “railroads” industry category, UP was ranked No. 1, followed by NS and BNSF.
The magazine surveys corporate executives, industry analysts and others to rank firms’ innovation, employee talent, use of corporate assets, social responsibility, management quality, financial soundness, long-term investment, and product and service quality.
Apple was ranked the No. 1 company overall. The top 50 list also includes Berkshire Hathaway (No. 2), General Electric Co. (No. 9), Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (No. 11), United Parcel Service (No. 27), Caterpillar (No. 35) and Best Buy (No. 44).
