Union Pacific Railroad registered its best first-half safety performance by logging an employee reportable injury rate of 1.31, a nearly 10 percent drop from the Class I's previous best first-half rate of 1.45.

UP’s reportable injury rate improved by 50 percent from 2001 to 2009, according to the railroad.

The reportable injury rate is calculated using the number of lost workday injuries per 200,000 work hours, or per 100 employees working a full year.

Meanwhile, UP subsidiary PS Technology has added a 3-D simulation training program to its capabilities. The program is designed to provide 3-D simulation training for a variety of industries, including railroads, construction, mining and shipping, according to a prepared statement.
