UP adds consumer products to Yard Sale

Union Pacific Railroad Nov. 9 expanded its Web-based Yard Sale discounted-moves program.

For a limited time, UP plans to provide a single price for consumer product moves from any Texas location — including U.S. border crossing origins — to California, Oregon and Washington.

The Yard Sale lane, discounted between 30 percent and 50 percent compared with truck prices, would apply to shipments of tires, glass, apparel and other related products.

UP in August 2000 launched Yard Sale at www.uprr.com/yardsale to enable customers to access Web-only specials and arrange door-to-door transportation, and permit non-rail-served customers to arrange truck shipments from a customer's location to rail terminals.

Yard Sale includes an "Anywhere to Anywhere" option, designed to enable users to identify UP lanes that might meet their individual shipping needs.
