UP grants trackage rights to two Oregon short lines

Union Pacific Railroad recently agreed to grant trackage rights to Portland & Western Railroad Inc. (PNWR) and Willamette & Pacific Railroad Inc. (WPNR) involving two Oregon lines.

The short lines will receive rights to access a 0.3-mile line between UP's Albany Yard and a connection point with the former Oregon Electric Line in Albany, Ore., and a 0.2-mile line comprising the north leg of the wye track connecting the Toledo Branch and UP's mainline.

The trackage rights will provide 220-mile PNWR improved access to the Oregon Electric Line — which it leases from Burlington Northern Santa Fe — and enable PNWR and 230-mile WPNR to improve yard operations and interchanges, according to a Surface Transportation Board filing.

PNWR and WPNR are owned and operated by Genesee & Wyoming Inc.
