UP green lights signal upgrade in Elmhurst, Ill.
advertisement
On Dec. 2, Union Pacific Railroad announced plans to upgrade signals in Elmhurst, Ill., which would enable trains to simultaneously leave from or arrive to the railroad's Melrose Park, Ill., yard without stopping or parking in Chicago's western suburbs.
UP expects the work, which involves seven crossings, to impact its Elmhurst operations between Dec. 6 and 12 because passing trains will be slowed to 20 mph.
The railroad plans to employ 40-man crews working 12-hour shifts so the upgrade can continue around the clock.
