UP honors 40 chemical shippers' safety efforts

Union Pacific Railroad recently bestowed its 13th annual Pinnacle Awards to 40 chemical shippers.
Launched in 1996, the awards recognize companies that successfully prevent accidents, devise chemical transportation safety corrective plans and achieve a rate of zero non-accidental releases for shipments of regulated hazardous materials.
Since 2000, non-accidental haz-mat releases on UP’s network have declined nearly 20 percent, primarily because of increased inspections by the railroad’s haz-mat safety field personnel and Pinnacle Award criteria.
