Union Pacific Railroad recently spent more than $5.9 million to upgrade a line between Portland and Oregon City, Ore.

Completed on June 16, the project involved the removal and installation of more than 38,000 ties, and road surface renewals at 59 grade crossings.

Last year, UP budgeted more than $127.5 million for capital projects in Oregon. This year, the Class I plans to spend about $1.7 billion on infrastructure improvements system-wide.
