The Great Plains Minority Supplier Development Council recently named Union Pacific Railroad the 2009 Corporation of the Year. The award recognizes the Class I’s efforts to improve its minority supplier business relations and help other companies and their key suppliers recognize the value of supplier diversity.

UP provides financial support for many of the council’s events and functions. During the past year, the Class I also hosted the council’s second-quarter meeting, as well as a business fair that attracted more than 45 minority-owned businesses.

In addition, UP co-sponsored Joe Delgado’s attendance at the Kellogg School of Management’s Advanced Management Education Program in Evanston, Ill. Delgado is president of minority-owned firms TCW Construction Inc. and Husker Ready Mixed Concrete L.L.C.
