Working Mother magazine recently named Union Pacific Railroad one of the nation’s 100 best companies for working mothers.

Making the list for the fifth time in six years, UP was honored for numerous health and welfare benefits, including a Rest Easy program, under which the railroad pays half the cost for a nurse to care for an employee’s sick child or dependent at their home, and a 24/7 referral service that helps workers find information and support programs for children and elder care.

Last year, UP also opened a $5 million, 20,000-square-foot childcare center near the railroad’s Omaha, Neb., headquarters. In addition, the Class I offers expanded special programming from women’s networking group Lead, Educate, Achieve and Develop (LEAD) that’s available in the field via tape and teleconference.
