G.I Jobs recently named Union Pacific Railroad a top military-friendly employer for 2009 — the sixth time in the past seven years the Class I has landed on the magazine’s top-50 list.

G.I Jobs recognized the UP recruiting department’s efforts to develop a military task team that creates and implements a military recruiting plan. In addition, the railroad continues to remain involved at military transition offices, military education offices, reserve units, military panels, National Guard units, career fairs, information sessions and employer panels, and serve on local military committees and boards.

“UP values the commitment, training and diversity that our armed forces bring to the workplace,” said UP Senior Vice President of Human Resources Barb Schaefer in a prepared statement.

GI Jobs also has included BNSF Railway Co. on its annual list of the nation’s top 50 military-friendly employers the past five years. In addition to the magazine’s honor, UP earlier this year received the Military Officers Association of America Distinguished Service Award.
