The National Governors Association (NGA) recently presented Public-Private Partnership Awards to Union Pacific Railroad, Intel and UnitedHealthcare at the 2010 NGA Winter Meeting in Washington, D.C.
The awards recognize “corporate fellow” companies that partnered with a governor’s office to implement a program or project that “positively affects the state’s citizens,” according to the NGA.
UP was nominated by Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman for an “innovative” Principals’ Partnership program through which the Class I works with Nebraska and 20 other states to provide high school principals with on-site assistance from education professionals. The program also provides networking opportunities for sharing best practices, professional development activities and summits, and online resources.
“This partnership has fostered significant change in schools with participating principals,” said Heineman in a prepared statement. “In Nebraska, the program reaches more than 40,000 students through 33 participating principals, and through 1,000 principals nationwide, the program reaches more than 1 million students."
