UP secures computer-based training system

advertisement

Union Pacific Railroad recently contracted Plateau Systems to provide software for Web-based and classroom training.

The supplier's Plateau 4 Learning Management System (LMS) would enable UP to reduce travel and resource costs associated with training the railroad's 48,000-plus workforce, which is spread across the United States.

The system also would enable UP to consolidate its education and corporate-training software onto one platform.

LMS is designed to manage all of an organization's learning activities, retain a time-stamped trail of each training event, and alert employees by email when a procedure changes or a certification is about to expire.

The software would keep UP's employees up to date, enhance workers' career development and enable the railroad's administrators to immediately retrieve learning data.

UP expects to integrate LMS with its PeopleSoft Human Resources Information System to automatically generate learning development plans and assess employees' training needs.
