UP secures second straight DaimlerChrysler logistics award

Union Pacific Railroad July 20 earned its second consecutive DaimlerChrysler Gold Award in a logistics category, which recognizes outstanding service performance and logistics excellence.
"This [2000 Gold Award] is a tribute to the continued dedication of our employees, and the commitment of our company to meet or exceed our customer's requirements," said Rob Knight, UP vice president and general manager-automotive, in a prepared statement.
DaimlerChrysler and UP in January 2000 formed a strategic alliance, under which the railroad moves all DaimlerChrysler vehicles west of the Mississippi River. The alliance is designed to reduce the automaker's order-to-delivery time and increase the productivity of its distribution network.
DaimlerChrysler in 1999 created the gold award to replace its Pentastar Award, which UP last won in 1992. The automaker annually issues awards to recognize supplier performance in various categories or divisions.
